40-Day Extravaganza at Doha Park Opens Today

It would be a place replete with fun, frolic and excitement for the next six weeks for the visitors to Doha Park, an entertainment facility, temporarily built near Doha Exhibition Center.

The more than 40-day extravaganza at the park will kick off today with a parade of the participating artists of different nationalities, starting from near the Qatar National Theatre roundabout. On their arrival at the park, the participants will be formally received by Qatari artists in traditional dresses.

Officials of the Qatar Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (QTEA) said yesterday that the event has participants from those countries, which have large local expatriate population, besides several other local artists. Teams from the GCC nations, Egypt, Lebanon, Turkey, India and the Philippines are among the visiting participating contingents, said the organisers.

In the evenings, there will be cultural shows of more than two nationalities at the entertainment pavilion.

At least eight teams will stage performances on the opening day, said an official of the Economic Group, which is organising the event for QTEA.

Circus artists from Egypt, represented by Hellou team, hugely popular in the region, are set to entertain the visitors. The circus hall could accommodate about 1,000 spectators. A similar tent could house the same number of spectators for films expected to be screened during the festival.

Among the other attractions are eateries being operated by different nationalsities.

Inquiries found that about 30 restaurants will run during the event. The organisers have also set up stalls selling readymade clothes, household goods and other essentials.

As part of the festival literary, art and cultural competitions are planned for schoolchildren.

The facilities will be open daily at 3pm and the gates will close at 12 midnight.

During weekends, the park will be open until 2am.

The entry to the park is free. About 35 rides and other entertainment avenues have already been built at the park, said the organisers.
